How MyMedGear collects, uses, protects and manages personal information.
Last updated: 19 August 2026
1. Who we are
My Med Gear (Pty) Ltd is responsible for personal information processed through www.mymedgear.co.za and related customer interactions, except where another party acts as an independent responsible party under applicable law.
2. What information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect your name, contact details, billing and delivery address, account details, order history, payment status, product enquiries, support correspondence, device and browser information, IP address, cookie data and other information reasonably required to provide our services. We do not intentionally collect information we do not need.
3. Why we use personal information
We process personal information to create and manage accounts, process orders and payments, arrange delivery and collection, communicate about orders, manage returns and refunds, respond to enquiries, prevent fraud, maintain records required by law, improve our website and services, and protect our legitimate business and security interests.
4. Marketing
We may send marketing communications where permitted by POPIA and other applicable law. Where consent is required for unsolicited electronic direct marketing, we will seek it in the manner required by law. You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism provided or by contacting us. Operational messages about orders, security or service are not marketing messages.
5. Who we share information with
We may share information with service providers and operators that help us run the business, including payment processors, banks, couriers, logistics providers, suppliers that dispatch products directly, website hosting and IT providers, security and fraud-prevention services, analytics providers, professional advisers and authorities where disclosure is legally required. We only share information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
6. Payments
Payment information may be processed by third-party payment providers. MyMedGear does not need to store full card details where the payment provider handles those securely. The provider’s own privacy and security terms may also apply.
7. Cookies and website data
We use cookies and similar technologies for core website functions, carts and sessions, preferences, performance, analytics and other permitted purposes. You can manage cookies through your browser and, where available, our consent tools, although disabling essential cookies may affect website functionality.
8. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide services, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, maintain business and tax records, and comply with legal obligations. When information is no longer required, we will delete, destroy or de-identify it where appropriate.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information we process, including access controls, secure connections, account controls and service-provider safeguards. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to reduce risk and respond to incidents.
10. Security compromises
If there are reasonable grounds to believe that personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will assess the incident and make notifications to the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as required by POPIA.
11. Your rights
Subject to POPIA and PAIA, you may request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you, request access, ask us to correct or update inaccurate information, request deletion or destruction where legally applicable, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
12. Cross-border processing
Some technology or service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that the transfer is permitted under POPIA and that appropriate safeguards or legal grounds apply.
13. Children
Our store is not directed at children acting independently. Where personal information relating to a child is processed, we will do so only where permitted by law and, where required, with appropriate consent from a competent person.
14. Access and correction requests
You can update certain information through your account. For other access, correction, objection or deletion requests, contact us through our Contact page. We may need to verify identity before providing or changing personal information.
15. PAIA and complaints
Access-to-record requests are explained on our PAIA & Access to Information page. You also have the right to lodge a POPIA or PAIA complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
16. Contact
Privacy enquiries can be sent through our Contact page or to sales@mymedgear.co.za. We may publish additional Information Officer details once formally confirmed for the company’s PAIA manual.
